I think that meeting for coffee or tea is a good safe start. A casual face to face enables people to get a good first impression.

I prefer to call a first date a meet and greet. Sometimes peoples profiles are not quite who they really are and I think people should just meet, no expectations and see if you are both interested in going on a first date. If it's nice weather I love to ride my trike and meet at a little cafe somewhere and talk and maybe go for a ride together.
