well, i walked by the kawasaki shop for a year...saw a bike i loved and one that could handle me..he he....

anyway i would stop and look t this bike with a sad face and a real desire in my heart...

one day i walked in the shop and said to myself...self, fun ain't for the boys no more........and bought it...

i learned to ride it after i bought it...so 12 years later i still have my bike....it has been so good to me..and very little maintainence....it now has new custom paint job, after market pipes..(i like things that go vroom, vroom)...new upholstry....and i look so neat in my seat....go do it girl..!!!!

Hello ladies of BK. I'm just getting my feet wet here on the threads and thought I might throw my 2 cents in instead of just stalking everyone!!LOL You all seem so cool and friendly. I'm a fairly new rider and have to resort to using my BF's bike.(It's a long story) She rides a Ridley and unless you're a hardcore HD gal you might want to consider this as a beginner bike. It's automatic, you just throttle down and go....it allowed me to concentrate on the road and traffic instead of the clutch. Its low (24") and I am 5'4" so I am able to flat foot the ground and actually not freak out at a red light because I'm losing her. (reference to riding my man's Roadglide!!) When I'm ready, I would love the Heritage Deluxe. The only thing I worry about with that bike is gettin her up. It's pretty heavy for me (120lbs). I'd have to leave it and come back with a strapping young stud. The Ridley is light and I can manage it by myself. Oh yeah it has a great sound.
    Ride safe......

    Just do it girlfriend!
I'm a road captain for our local Ladies of Harley Chapter. We ride everything from a FatBoy (like myself) to a Deluxe to a Heritage to Vrods, alot ride the Dynas and I even know a gal who rides a HD dresser (she has been riding many years). Most Sporty's have too high a center of gravity. Seeing some young gals on the sport bikes but I prefer a cruiser. IF you are short you need to get it lowered enough (and still be safe). I used to scrape my boards a lot in turns, got it raised a half inch and will scrape some but not so much as I was. I'm 5'3" and can still straddle flatfooted with plenty of knee bend. That way I can still get some leverage to back it up. Get a seat that feels good to you and isn't too big (I have both a REACH seat for long road trips and a solo BRAWLER for day trips around here). Make sure your handle bars are comfortable and you aren't too spread out. All those things make a bike easier to handle, The more comfortable you are the more confidence you will have. Don't take it for granted that a driver in a cage will see you, always try to have an escape route planned out when you approach intersections,etc.. There are so many road hazards to watch out for, be aware of what is around you, haave an escape route and NEVER take it for granted that someone in a cage or big rig sees you. When you're riding a bike, even halfway hard, you don't have time for a lot of sightseeing - you need to be watching what the road is throwing your way. Enjoy the wind and sun on your face the feel of power, all that - but don't get wrapped up in sightseeing.
Please, don't EVER let anyone push you past your limits - if they get ahead of you, you'll catch up eventually. You need to push yourself some, keep advancing - but a little at a time. I know several girls who have gone off the road trying to keep up with the big boys. Ride by your self or with people who are considerate of your skills and build your confidence. Now get in the wind!

As what I concider a motorcycle Virgin...I had alot of input from knowledgeable friends who have taken me out on the back of their's. I was always taking what ever second seat was available and got tired of never knowing if there was goignt be room for one more...

So I was prompted to become a rider, so i as I said i had the input of about 10 men...and they all but 1 concurred that i shouldl purchase an inexpensive import and then take it from there...

So I've bought a 1986 suzuki Intruder...it was more than affordable...Less than $1000 in great mechanical shape...it was so inexpensive becsue someone tried to paint it...it looks great in pictures but up front and personal....it is a real pig of a bike...

I start my lessons on sunday afternoon...Yes I had more than one of the guys pffer to take me out and Teach me...but well I learned friving from a pro...I dont want to learn bad habits...I want to start with a fresh slate with good and safe habits.

and that is my point of view.

    Hey, HD lover,
Been to Marshfield a few times back in my rodeo days:)
Now I ride a steel horse and I love him.
    (I don't ride girls - LOL!)
I'm 5'3". I ride a 2006 FLSTF that has been lowered. It's very well balanced, has a low center of gravity and with it lowered, I have no problem with getting my feet firmly on the ground. This guy handles great, a little hard when I hit a bump, and sometimes when I scrape the boards it makes my b--- pucker a bit:(
I had never even been on a motorcylcle before the summer of 2004. I was over 50, rode one time as a passenger and a few weeks later owned one. I wasn't going to waste time waiting on an invite to get to ride. I am glad I started out on a smaller bike but last winter I traded up to my Fatboyand I am HAPPY!!!
I do a lot of riding by myself. I have managed to get a few miles (a little over 14,000) under my belt. If I have someone to ride with great, if not , that's great too.
Like I said, I'm not going to wait on someone to hold my hand if I want to do something.
In fact, I am planning on a May trip to MOAB from NW Arkansas, across OK into TX, NM and up through CO into Utah. Anyone want to join up along the way??
I do highly recommend taking a class - it helps but nothing takes the place of mounting up and getting out on the road. I'll repeat what those who mentored me preached... it is one thing to push the envelope a little bit for yourself in order to improve and advance your skills. It is another to try to ride beyond your limits while trying to keep up with people you are riding with. If they are itching for speed and won't be considerate enough to back down to your level. Let them go on - you can catch up to them down the road. DON'T let what someone else does dictate what you do - ride at your own level and enjoy the journey.
Age, size, strength, pocket book - there is a bike out there for everyone. Girls, if you want to ride -just do it !

Been a HD passenger for the last 10 years. Well, the guy left and took his bike. Now I've got the "itch." Going to take classes this summer and hopefully purchase a bike at the end of the year or the first of next. The question is.........how do you decide what bike you can handle? So let me know what YOU ride. Thanks, Susan

Re:Susan did you take the riding classes and if you did what bike was you mount of chose.
