Shhhh...it's nice and quiet in here...

Kinda seems like things are quietening down. That alone proves there IS a God.

Let's keep it nice and quiet and low-key in here. We'll hide from everyone else.

Let's see...let's start off with Nodey. SHE has some great news! Rich got her started on a bike!

Nodey...keep it up. I remember when I started learning, it was in a big empty industrial parking lot, and I used to swear I would never be able to go fast enough to get out of first gear, let alone hit the highway.

Now girl...it's second nature. One day it will just kick in and you'll be hitting 65 or 70 mph without thinking about it.

The best advice I could give you would be:

1. Ride to the beat of your own drum.

2. Know your limits.

These have gotten me out of binds many times.

I ride my way...cause I'm the one I'm responsible for. Yes, yes, I look out for the others I'm with, but bottom line, it's all about me. My main goal is finishing the ride safe.

I know my limits. If I've been going ALL day and feeling exhausted...then it's time to head home. One time I didn't do this, and I dropped it in my driveway and busted up the turn signals and mirrors. All because I thought I HAD to keep up with the others and ride that extra couple of hours. Now...it's all about me.

Have fun darlin'! I would be proud to ride with you anyday.

So, Nodey, when are you planning on taking the safety course?

You gonna take the Motorcycle Safety Foundation one or the Rider's Edge?

I started the MSF then had to leave because I was flying then, and got called out for the weekend on a trip and couldn't finish it. They were cool and refunded.

I could have gone back to it, but I had friend who raved about the Riders Edge so when I went back, I took that one.

Highly recommended! They don't push you to buy a HD either. There were only 2 women in my class of like 9 or 10, but the one here in Austin offers a Ladies Only class about once a month. Wish I would have known that! The men weren't bad, but a little more experienced than me and the other girl. We kept up though!!

A girl I work with just recently took the Ladies Only one and LOVED it. She had NEVER been on a bike before and was petrified. She said most ALL the women in there were as nervous as her and she said she has no doubt found life long riding buddies. They enjoy being together because they are all at the same riding level and no one pushes anyone.

I don't know how much I can help this far away, but if you have any sort of question I'll be happy to try to answer it. I remember the feeling of 'being new' but trust me, it passes FAST. Like I said, I used to be scared to shift into 2nd gear, and now I take 200 mile solo rides that involve freeways @ 70 mph, hills, gravel roads, all of it.

Us girls ought to try to get together and do a weekend ride. We could map out a starting point and ride through areas and pick up some here and there. And for those girls who don't have a bike just yet, we can always use cars for luggage and stuff we buy when we GO SHOPPING!

It'd be tough, but we may could swing it. As a last resort, I'd trailer somewhere, make the ride, then trailer it home.

I know, I'm a wuss. But I don't like to ride alone at night!

Well I would use my stang to pile sh*t up in.. BUT ....... I will have my bike hopefully in Feb.. WHOOOOOOOOOF*CKINGHOOOOOOOOO.... YAY FOR MEEEEEEEEEEEEE !!!!!!!!!!!!

Nodey, congrats on completing the first lesson. While I'm sure at some point you're going to take a safety course (MSF or ABATE) - and you ARE going to take a course, right?--and I'm sure Rich is a capable teacher, a couple things of note.
You might consider reading up on msgroup dot org slash discuss dot asp.
Always (ALWAYS) look where you want to go. DO NOT look where you don't want to be.
Learn how to pick up your bike yourself because there unfortunately will come a time when each of us has to. Use the WOW technique - behind in the saddle, grab the seat and the front handlebar, walk backwards. Least amount of lifting that way.
If you make that helmet your friend now, it will never bother you when you have to put it on to ride across Missouri 3 months after you quit wearing it.
Dress safe and ride safe. Don't ever take what the other drivers or riders are doing for granted.
Ride your bike, not the person's ahead, behind, or beside you.
If you lock up the back brake, don't come off of it until you are entirely stopped unless you are VERY skilled at riding and braking. You won't like the result.
Oh yeah. And have fun.

(I love it when they give you 3000 things to remember and then tell you to have fun, don't you?)

I'm reallly looking forward to my next "lesson". Rich told me I get to go to the parking lot next.
I was so nervous...I was gripping the throttle so hard, afraid I was going to take off.
My biggest downfall will be my impatience at getting skilled.

I can't wait!!!!

When he takes you to the "parking lot" I want to go with...gotta see your lil short self on a bike, and moving! LOL I'm so proud of you!!! Hopefully by Spring, I'll have one and you and I can ride our hearts out!
