Flowers? Help! I like them all, but I'm buying a house w/an acre of land, and want to turn 1/2 of the back yard into a beach (already got the pool). Pampas grass, reeds, cattails, etc., but what kind of flowers can I put to get some good smell out there? I've thought of several butterfly bushes and star-gazer lilies, but anything else?

Roses...I have a row of 'red hedge roses' across one side of my front yard...and others planted about.

My neighbor has roses of all types, scents, & colors..they are beautiful. She always has fresh cut roses during the summer...dried ones in the winter..

I love all flowers though. I get excited when the crocus appear...and then the daffodils.
My lilac is bloomed but almost gone.

Very precious to me is an orange azela that my husband rescued from a vacant lot that was gonna be cleared. He brought it home and planted it. For a couple years it didn't do well and the summer before he died he replanted it elsewhere. It is doing fantastic. It is blooming so bright right now & doubled in size these last 2 years...puts a big smile on my face.

Across the drive is my red weigelia....they are just coming out and the hummers love them. It is exciting.
My purple rhododendron are popping open...

I just love it...but yes, the rose is my favorite.

Hey Everyone - Rocky came up with a great idea here after my other flowers thread. This may also give the guys out there something to think about! So, what's your favorite flower?
My favorite flowers are ones that a precious child gives to me. I love a bouquet of sunny yellow Dandelions. I also love any flowers that are given to me in love.
One of my favorite breathtaking bouquets that I love? Miniature red carnations mixed in with Baby's Breath. I love Baby's Breath. And the carnations last forever. I love roses too mixed with Baby's Breath.
Have a great day everyone & here's a rose from me to you...

Wisteria and jasmine... I love the smell!!

I agree with Smile, especially on the dandlions!
Yesterday being Mother's Day was kinda hard on me as none of my children were with me. One of the ladies that goes to my church brought me a corssage,I felt honored that out of everyone there she remembered me. I don't feel that I'm any better or more important than anyone else but, I know that God chose her to give me a that beautiful flower as a blessing that would stick out. You see this woman athough only in her 40's has alzhiemers. She isn't always @ church and has only spoken with me a couple of times, and with all she deals with in her life, she remembered me! I am truly blessed and humbled.
Have a blessed day/ night everyone, and guys, every woman loves to get flowers of any kind..... just because!

I love Lilacs...mine are blooming right now...wish they would hang around a bit longer though...I would love to plant a French Lilac...they are so pretty with their darker purple color! I also love living out in the country like I do & how there are rows of huge lilac bushes along the roadside...I love springtime :)
You'll get no arguments here on that! I was over at a buddys the other day, and as I was putting on my gear to hop on the bike and leave I was spellbound with the smell of some white colored Lilacs in his yard. The breeze had shifted so I was graced with the full effect of them. I'm in the process of moving to central Oregan a right now, and if all goes well I'll be building a place on two acres in the hills. The ground looks perfect for growing Lilacs, so once the house is in and squared away it's off to the nursery.

Tuff call. I've always associated the Rose as being symbolic of a woman. Delicate strenght, beauty, yet protective (ref the thorns). But I've always loved the smell of Lilacs, and I've planted them all around each house I've owned including my current digs. I particularly love it in spring when I can open all the windows and the house is filled with the smell. But astetic wise, a rose is pretty hard to beat.

There are so many lovely young flowers on this site, and you are asking me to tell you which of you I find are my favorites? That just isn't right.....I'll just say it is an honor to be in your presence, although you'll forgive me for maintaining a small bit of distance should you exhibit traits of a venus flytrap.....that of eating meat with malicious intent. If you are more of a salicious flytrap however, you might just find a stamen more than able to properly pollinate your pistil.

Now. Where was I? Oh, that's right;

To the floral variety now...Tulips, dahlias, Stargazer Lilies, apple blossoms, all roses, heather, snapdragons, cactus (one of the most beautiful), among others.
