1-2;

Have you ever asked yourself what is the purpose of life?

Why are we here? Why are you on this planet, waking up everyday to go to work, school, or just hanging around, meeting new people, nice or arrogant people, having fun with your family and friends, spending time with the person you love...

I don't want to know what religion you are or what God you believe in, if you do. I just want to know your opinion, your views.

I do believe there is a purpose to life.

Don't you think this is horrible when we have to sit here everyday hearing, watching, or reading the news that says: "2 kids aged of five and seven years old have been murdered in a small town called St-John" or "A man killed himself today after killing his wife"? When I hear that, I ask myself: In what kind of world am I living? There are so many injustices such as discrimination, all kind of discrimination. However, there are also injustice like, for example, kids dying of cancer or people who wake up one day and realize that they lost everything...

What inspired me to write this is that question someone, a suicidal friend of mine, asked me one day: "Jenny, what is the purpose of life?"

I've read somewhere, from a French author called Jean- Paul Sartre, something that says: "When we were born, freedom has been given to us as a gift". Yes, we were free. But the author also said:?However, we became slaves of that liberty". That's why there are so many unhappy, desperate, suicidal persons who doesn't know how to deal with that freedom.

the purpose of life is to learn about LOVE. There is so much more than one person can ever fully know. How blessed we are to have a God of Love, rather than one of Death, Violence, or even,,,Keeping up with the Joneses!

Ok i dont want to seem like a know it all- but the purpose in life for everyone is to help each other--help when help is needed -- take the time out to help those in need--and on a karmic level it will all come back and go around and around. we cant change other people we cant change the world -- but we can start with ourselves- and then is spreads from there. we all have good intentions though it not always seems the best. on a christian level for me i can say i tried it my parents way- my(ex) husbands way -- my way -- even thought evil thoughts at times-- so i can say the devils way-- i have tried every way-- but found my life so much better when i do it GOD'S WAY. however i am still human- and ooops still make the occasional sin- but all is good. remember that is to help people-- but we dont and God(higher power) does not expect us to be doormats for people. think about every time that you were truly happy-- it was when you were doing something for someone--

Let's see, religion...hmmm...
Isn't that were weak minded people come looking for answers to questions that don't really matter? "Why are we here?" "What time is it really?" "Where are we?"

How about you are here, the time is now,and you are here because you are interested or relatives traveled to get you here.
Religion can be a good thing, it just depends on how it's defined. I like riding my motos in the mountains-that's my religion. Some people like to fly airplanes into buildings-that is their religion... You see, religion can mean a lot of things to different people.

Morty,
Very well said!
Your My religion/their religion statements hit the nail on the head.
I was at a wonderful Biker hang out up here recently talking to some friends and I said "This is my religion, being out in nature, riding, being with good friends and good music. That's when I feel most connected to 'spirit'."
That good energy that flows through us all and makes us one family. If we could only be good to one another and follow the Golden Rule.
Double Delighted

Thx Treecutter......I kind of felt you were already a believer.

I'm not Catholic, but friends of mine that are tell me the same thing you have. I've lived my life in Christian churches where everyone supports each other, through all sorts of trials in this life.

Also, thank you for the song.......the words tell about a lot of pain and sorrow.....just like what some of our lives hand over to us. But we're here, and we're alive, and we're movin on, huh? And that's a good thing.

Hi Blue,

Recognition & Belief in a Higher Power, by any name is a good thing, be it Jesus or Spirit or what ver name you choose. I am directly talking about the 'religion. I was raised in the Catholic Church, and it talked a punishing and harsh God.It was/is a huge organisation that was/is the single richest organisation in the world. I saw (and see) it as a very cold organization while growing up, it is fear based.
For me, I KNOW that I am alive and well today because of my Higher Power. I by no means claim any 'slickness' or luck, for having survived gotten through all the crap that I have ...there was always
the sense of someone 'up there watching over me'. I can tell you that I am more aware of my Higher Power today than ever, I acknowledge Him on a daily bases and sometimes many times a day. I give thanks for my Life and the know that all is good. I am in the end a very gratefull person. Like all of us I have lost many ,many Brothers and Sisters on this long journey. For me I like the idea of karma , it explains so much of what otherwise is unexplainable, FOR ME!
I will end with the words to a song that got me through so many hard times...Linda ronstadt sang it!

Linda Ronstadt -
Keep Me From Blowing Away Lyrics

written by Paul Craft
? Jack Music Inc

Well I spent my whole lifetime
In a world where the sunshine
Finds excuses for not hangin' 'round
I squandered emotions
On the slightest of notions
And the first easy loving I found
But soon all the good times
The gay times and play times
Like colors run together and fade
Oh Lord if you hear me
Touch me and hold me
And keep me from blowing away

There's times when I trembled
When my mind remembered
The days that just crumbled away
With nothing to show
But these lines that I know
Are beginning to show in my face

Oh Lord if you're listening
I know I'm no Christian
And I ain't got much coming to me
So send down some sunshine
Throw out your lifeline
And keep me from blowing away

Oh Lord if you hear me
Touch me and hold me
And keep me from blowing away

Sorry Treecutter.........I disagree.
My religion (Christianity) is for those who believe and have hope for the future of mankind, and for those that believe in everlasting life.

Without my faith I wouldn't have survived the loss of three of my brothers (1% ers.......patches, who lived in "the life"......and lost)...........and for my little girl, who was killed by a drunk driver 31 years ago.

My pain was so heavy I could hardly move.......and that's when I knew that Jesus was carrying me. Couldn't have been anyone else.

So my friend.......that's why I believe. ~Blue!

One of my favorite quotes: "Religion is for people who are fearful of going to hell.
Spirituality is for those who have been there!"

Lady,

I think it's wonderful that you do this. You're right. One never knows what another may need to read or see or hear. I understood that the post was another's email. I took the opportunity to pass on that information to you in case you wanted to "scoot" it further on down the line! I think you will enjoy the first book if you decide to read it. Let me know what you think if you do.

Dear Lady,

I know this sounds very cliche, but, there are reasons for why things happen the way they do. Life, in itself, is a choice and there comes a day when we realize this, although for many it comes later, for some sooner.

If you are truly interested in answers to all of your questions, go get and read the "Conversations with God" series by Neale Donald Walsch. You won't regret it. Don't let the title throw you, these books are NOT religious. Book 1 deals with life on a personal level. Book 2 on a global level, and book 3 on a universal level. The series continues on and there are other smaller books that enhance and support what you are reading. I loved them and it helped me to understand why I felt the way I did about life and it actually helped me to understand why we fear and why we shouldn't! I now understand why people take their own lives, etc., and that it is something that we shouldn't judge as wrong.

I hope you find this information valuable, if you choose to read these books. Funny thing is...I'm bumping into people at BK and at BAOL that have read some or all of the series. I was very surprised and yet...not really! I should have known! Free spirits!

Hope this helps.

my daughter read them when she was 20 and then gave them to me read--at the time i had alot of chit going on in my life and didn't get to finish the series--but will this summer

they are good books--but i think you have to be open to them to fully accept and understand

Agreed! It really depends on how ready one is for the information, or better said, how thirsty. I gobbled them up! I guess I was hungry! LOL!
