I was married to a smoker, was not the reason for the split but I won't be in a relationship with one again, which makes it tough here in the middle of tobacco country

If you quit smoking and start up again: Don't beat yourself up. Just quit again. This is the first moment of your new life.

For me it is a problem because I have sinus problems. Which s*cks because I like a good cigar now and then. As for smoky bar rooms, I absolutely hate them. Only because of how I feel that night or the next day. That is why I usually look for places that are outside or have seperated smoking areas. In Maryland we do not have a smoking ban for bars and clubs. It has come up several times in the state legislature. But, it often gets pushed aside for other issues.

I held my mother's hand while she died of lung Cancer. Six month's later I was sitting at my Surrogate dad's bedside while he lay dying of lung cancer. 2 years before that, his wife (not my mom, but like a mother to me); called me on the fone to tell me she loved me-then died of lung cancer a few days later.
When kissing__ breathing in tandom_sharing breath_.
I don't smoke and never have, but if my date smokes thats ok with me. Just not in my house or my car. I'm around it when I bowl or shoot pool so to me it's no big deal.

My father died of cancer,he was a life long smoker. My uncle died of lung cancer, but he never smoked. He did however, own a tire distributorship and had is office located in the wharehouse.Unfortunately he was unaware of the chemicals that outgas from tires long after they have been manufactured.
I agree... to each his/her own but it is something I can't deal with well.. and sorry for your losses.

I revise that. After recently seeing someone who is probably THE MOST chronic chain smoker I've ever been around (although a considerate smoker, I will say) I will no longer date a smoker. Sorry, but really being anywhere near the smoke gives me headaches and I just don't like the smell that lingers on their clothes and skin.
I'm with you on that one. I've never smoked and no one in the family does. I've tried to date those who do, but kissing just isn't that fresh and if that's not good, I just don't care to go f*arther. (Yes, f*arther was banned by the BK idiots.)
And another thing. I watched my ex's grandfather (who was one of the most incredible men I've ever known) die of lung cancer. He never smoked. Even WITH the cancer, he was healthy as hell. I watched Grandmother sit at his bedside through his last hours. Now she is alone at 85 and doing her best to move forward after a 60+ year marriage.
Beings we know smoking is a huge cause of lung cancer, I don't care to spend my later years in life sitting at a bedside. Don't care to lose my husband because he consistantly did something in his younger years that he knew had a big chance of killing him. It seems selfish to place your loved one in that position just for a bad habit you wouldn't cut.
I'm with you! My mom is barely able to walk across a room because her heart and lungs are so damaged by years of smoking... I can handle an occasional cigar, but cigarettes are the nastiest thing ever invented... I'll pass on smokers...oh yeah...and heavy drinkers, liars, cheats... ooops...WAIT...wrong forum....LOL
