a recent email that i received:

*****************
Did God create everything that exists? Does evil exist? Did God create evil?

A University professor at a well known institution of higher learning challenged his students with this question. "Did God create everything that exists?" A student bravely replied, "Yes he did!"

"God created everything?" The professor asked.

"Yes sir, he certainly did," the student replied.

The professor answered, "If God created everything; then God created evil.

And, since evil exists, and according to the principal that our works define who we are, then we can assume God is evil."

The student became quiet and did not answer the professor's hypothetical definition. The professor, quite pleased with himself, boasted to the students that he had proven once more that the Christian faith was a myth.

Another student raised his hand and said, "May I ask you a question, professor?"

"Of course", replied the professor.

The student stood up and asked, "Professor, does cold exist?"

"What kind of question is this? Of course it exists. Have you never been cold?" The other students snickered at the young man's question.

The young man replied, "In fact sir, cold does not exist. According to the laws of physics, what we consider cold is in reality the absence of heat. Every body or object is susceptible to study when it has or transmits energy, and heat is what makes a body or matter have or transmit energy. Absolute zero (-460 F) is the total absence of heat; and all matter becomes inert and incapable of reaction at that temperature. Cold does not exist. We have created this word to describe how we feel if we have no heat."

The student continued, "Professor, does darkness exist?"

The professor responded, "Of course it does."

The student replied, "Once again you are wrong sir, darkness does not exist either. Darkness is in reality the absence of light. Light we can study, but not darkness. In fact, we can use Newton's prism to break white light into many colors and study the various wavelengths of each color. You cannot measure darkness. A simple ray of light can break into a world of darkness and illuminate it. How can you know how dark a certain space is? You measure the amount of light present. Isn't this correct? Darkness is a term used by man to describe what happens when there is no light present."

Finally the young man asked the professor, "Sir, does evil exist?"

Now uncertain, the professor responded, "Of course, as I have already said. We see it everyday. It is in the daily examples of man's inhumanity to man.
It is in the multitude of crime and violence everywhere in the world. These manifestations are nothing else but evil.

To this the student replied, "Evil does not exist, sir, or at least it does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is just like darkness and cold, a
word that man has created to describe the absence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is the result of what happens when man does not have God's love
present in his heart. It's like the cold that comes when there is no heat, or the darkness that comes when there is no light."

The professor sat down.

The young man's name -- Albert Einstein
**************

i doubt that Einstein really had this conversation with a professor but still a good story.

Live your life not believing in God or Jesus and find out for yourself. I'd say your gonna get yourself one heck of a dose of evil!! Do yourself some good and find a church you like.

One of these days, mankind as a whole will stop fearing death and therefore have no need for religion. We still act like ancient man, needing someone to blame or thank for the way society and the world is. Hundreds of years ago we were a world of religion, with the Catholics roaming the world trying to force everyone to convert or they'd be killed, real nice thought process there. Today religion is to blame for our current situation in Iraq, the bombings that still occur in Ireland, the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centers, and many other atrocities. If you want to believe in something, believe in yourself. Believe in your family and your friends. Believe in your country. I think it's pretty easy to live your life the right way without having someone in robes or carrying this or that holy book telling you what to do. What never ceases to amaze me is that all of these religious fanatics who preach peace and brotherhood are the same ones who will kill and shun you if you don't agree with them. My higher power is myself, and what my mother and father taught me growing up. Some of which I still believe, some of which I do not. I'm not some mindless zombie who does what some book tells me to do that was written thousands of years ago by other MEN. So don't wait on god to save you, save yourself. Don't pray to god to heal the sick, heal them yourself. We all have the energy within ourselves to achieve anything we want out of life. And when we die? We turn back into that energy from whence we came, nothing lost, nothing gained. Don't fear death, live life. Don't hate others who don't believe the way you do, hug them and love them as your brothers and sisters. Although I guess if we took away all religion, some people would kill you because of what you wore or your politics. Isn't it strange to you that priests are molesting little boys and the holiest city on earth is the site of the most death? Think about it.

evil is knowledge of thirst for darkness, almost like a craving to see how deep it goes, the deeper the darker, the blacker the thicker, there is good and bad in everyone.

If we take the apostle Paul's perspective - he wrote in Galations that evil was the act of going back under the law and having sin consciousness -anything that went against the gospel of peace and grace.

Life will be life as it is here on Earth, but God and Jesus have already bought and paid for us all.

Admission to the best amusement park is already paid for!!!
Lets quite concentrating energy on what is "evil" and ask what is "good" and how can we awaken the Kingdom of Heaven.

5thgear--its evil to put 6 gears in a Dyna and not Softails now that is evil.

DirtyBiker,

You are right.
No intellectual force or emotional appeal can open what is Grace's to reveal alone and each must have what is theirs alone and each is great in that alone.

Peace be with you and I apologize for being a little devil and stirring things up.

He had the same freedom to refuse as everyone does and yet he chose to listen and participate in the mystery. We do have choice a considerable amount if we could only find the faith in ourselves we might find a new world. God suffers in support of our freedom to choose even that which injures his greatest Love.
The Kingdom of God is already here; has been for some time now. Isn't it a great place to be.

Chutes and Ladders...that was an enjoyable metaphor.

Again your on fire...great!
Peace be with You! May Wisdom Fill You!

hmmmm, now I'd say Jonah was coerced wouldn't you?As a father myself,I know that I just don't want my kids to obey a bunch of rules.I want them to understand why that rule exists, and enjoy knowing the truth and celebrating it.But I'm getting off on a tangent,I've said what I need to,the seed is planted.

If human participation has no effect

what would have been the result of John the Baptist not leaving his comfort zone in the wilderness to chastise the people and baptize with water?

A mystery lies in Jesus's baptism by John. Contemplate it.

Is it really the way its suppose to be?
Why is their a flaming sword held by an Angel at Garden of Eden Gates?

Who was it that compelled John to Baptise?Who was it that convinced him?The only ONE who is in control.Just as God softens and compels man,He also hardens men's hearts. He is in control in ALL circumstances. The same God that opens man's eyes, blinds man as HE chooses, not as puny man decides. So either God is in control or He isn't? I don't know about you but the God I know IS in control. If it is HIS will that you baptise, you WILL baptise. If it is HIS will that you be hardened and wander in the desert, you WILL wander in the desert.Life is not a game of Chutes and Ladders.Life is the shadow of the things to come in the Kindom of God.
