The job is about to be back on-line! Off-line, they are saying that all issues should be worked out in a month, and the job will start in February. It's had so many ups and downs, its hard to believe that this may be it. Still the insiders are saying, that this is it and the job is a go.
Scripps tells county it prefers FAU Jupiter site

The Scripps Research Institute has told Palm Beach County that its trustees have "expressed a preference for the FAU Jupiter site as the new site for our Florida facilities."
Doug Bingham, Scripps' chief operating officer, said one of the next steps will be for the county and Scripps to amend their contract. That contract had focused on building at Mecca Farms, the former orange grove just east of the J.W. Corbett Wildlife Management Area.
Building Scripps on the Donald Ross Road property in the Abacoa development will serve as "a catalyst for making Florida a leading center for scientific and medical research," Scripps' letter said.
But it added that final acceptance will depend on the county presenting a plan acceptable to the state for making the area a biomedical hub.
A spokesman for Gov. Jeb Bush said, "Our response has not really changed. We're still awaiting evidence that the site meets the criteria necessary for the state to see an appropriate return on investment. There needs to be enough available square footage for a cluster to develop."
I don't know if its another teaser, but I received an e-m ail that Scripps is looking at a property in the same county that would enable them to transfer the permits and just start building. Also, it is a site that no environmental impact reports would have to be done and they could start building quickly. I was told to be ready to react quickly. Hopefully it not another ride on the merry-go-around.

You have your really expensive areas, and you have your ghettos. I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do when I grew up, and where I want to do it. Florida is one of the areas I've been looking at. The best advice I can give you, is make the trip down there. (If you have the time, make the trip 2 - 3 times, during different times of the year). Florida is mainly a non-union state, right to work state. So in general the trade dollars arent as high as say NJ, NY and some other states. In regards to speaking spanish, hey its a realization, hispanics are the fastest growing minority in the country. But it isnt going to make a difference if you dont speak spanish, it does help, especially if you're in a supervisory role. The weather, well its the south, its hot. I like the change in seasons, but its something I'm going to have to give up if and when I decide to make the move. Good luck to you.
Thanks MidnightHarleyRun, I've been out there a couple of times now and like it. Now its up to the lawyers whether we build or not. We are expecting a definent answer by Dec. 20

Cobalt write: Good news, I think. Scripps has to build Lab Space or they will loose a lot of donor money. It's not official, but word is that they will strike a deal to build at an alternative site in the West Palm Beach area and start in the next 60 days, plus or minus. My fingers are crossed.
I'll cross mine too Cobalt....are they gonna hold the Merry-Go-Round for a bit?
