army, I have met 2 people that changed my life, and my health. One is a chiropractor, he also is a licensed accupunturist. He has helped my allergies, my lower back problems. I also spent one summer with a lady whos ex husband was a licensed natural health dr. She got me to quit drinking coffee, helped me understand diet, artificial sweeteners, and some things I shouldnt eat if at all possible. Another friend just told me of a "kinesiologist" (spelling) that has worked wonders with many ailments he has. I would try a natural health food store, and start asking questions about your diet, maybe you will get lucky and find someone that has dealt with this through a more natural approach. I would never of thought I could feel this way 10 years ago, and changed my beliefs so drastically. good luck army, and if anyone out there worth his salt that falls for you, he will make the adjustment for you,,,,,ed

Narcolepsy: The result of finally realizing that yes, the world and other people really are that boring.......

Seriously, there are many causes for it. Sure hope they look into physical causes for it before deciding on drugs. In this day and age it isn't guaranteed though.

Hi Army , Dont let anything stop you from enjoying your life or meeting the person of your dreams . If people really care for each other there are many ways to over come what seems an impossiable task . If you love to ride and he cares for you enough you can get armrests attached to the backrest that lock in and will keep you from moveing to far left or right , find or make a buddy belt , modify the foot rests so your feet cant fall off . If you think about it you can find so many ways to over come many things in life . Just remember to some one you are more then worth the effort . So let your self find him or him find you and enjoy it . Good luck........

I hired a man named David to work in the parts and accessories area. He had the same thing and had a hard time securing a job being on heavy medication. A couple of times I found him asleep at the bench. He was very knowledgable about parts, and what he didn't know he was taught. People liked his personality. I figured as long as he stayed off ladders, away from machinery, off the bikes and out of the shop he would be fine. I came to work one day and saw David on the forklift. The owner knew of David's illness, but since the David had forklift experience and being down employees that day, the owner let David drive. I'm talking lifting up crates with new bikes in them up as high as they can be lifted (without the forklift falling over) to put the crates on the 3rd steel shelf up! Being a business advisor and the shops operations director, I had to think of safety and liability. I told David he was needed in another area. Two days later, Dave came in the shop and acted really shook up. He was still suited up and there were signs that he had hit the road. He told us he fell asleep while on his bike. I took him to his doctor and drove him home. The owner and I brought him his bike to him that night. The owner understood and never asked David to work the forklift again. After a couple of years David found a parts job at a Harley shop. He wasn't a Ducati dude anyway. We were proud he got his start with us. -vetducgirl

Hello ArmyD,
It is Sunday and I was wondering what happened at your doctors appt.on Friday? Did he change your medication over to Provogil?
I am very happy being on it and satisfied with the results.
At least I don't have to worry about falling asleep anymore in the middle of eating dinner with family or friends....lol! It really wasn't funny at the time....but when I look back on some of the incidents that would happen during dinner or sitting on the sofa holding a full glass of ice tea and my Boston Terriers snuggled up around my lap as I was watching tv,and all of a sudden I would fall asleep...my poor furry babies would jolt from the sofa because the glass of ice tea I was holding went spilling all over them!
And I had some very fast awakes myself, when I would doze off holding a hot cup of coffee....I mean I would have just taken a sip and was going to put it back down on the end table...thats how fast I would go to sleep.
I hope you got good news from your visit and if you ever want to talk about our same problem...or if you have any questions...just holler...
and thank you for the welcome aboard.
GEA

Hello ArmyDaughter311,
I can actually vouch how you feel about your disorder of "Narcolepsy",for I have the same problem.
I am on PROVIGIL 200MG, 2 tabs once daily in am.That dose will keep you awake approx.12-14 hours(no jitters)it is important to take before noon!
If I find myself having a hard time falling asleep being on this, when it is time to go too bed,my doctor gave me Ambien 10MG,but make sure you are ready for bed when you take it...it works with-in 10 minutes.
Honey...do not let this illness rule or ruin your life...I was letting it...but then I also have some other major medical issues on top of this that almost all started with in a years time of each other when I was only 46 years old.
Which includes:Lupus,Sjogren's Syndrome,Fibromyalgia,Rheumatoid Arthritis and 3rd stage kidney failure.
I also kept my distance from people, not wanting to get close to anyone...but after working with specialist's in each field of illness that I have, the right medicines...getting myself out of depression and a good support group.I feel like myself again and very much alive and rearing too go!
I just turned 52 in Sept and going strong! I will never let my medical problems rule me again.
And if a man interested in me can not accept me for whom I am and what I have to deal with, which I did not ask to be dealt that hand of cards...then to hell with him! He was not worth knowing then.
We all have our own little health problems...to go into a relationship understanding them and to support each other would be nice. I know there are men and women out there who feel the same.
I know you posted this back a while ago,but I just joined and was reading some of the post and came upon yours and wanted to share with you.
I hope you have asked your doctor by now about the Provigil and that you are on it.
God Bless and ride safe!
GreenEyedAngel

Thanks and I will..Take care Jules.

Ritalin is a drug we use on adults when we try to get them off the vent and they are real sleepy. They use it in children for ADD but it has the opposite affect on adults, provigil is another drug we use for those sleepy patients. Wish you the best and let us know how things are working out for you
