Hi Youcan take the Motorcycle safety Course in NY ..you can take it in Yonkers (contact mSC in Long Island City (Queens,NY) or at Queensborough Community College. The course was $380 last year and $50 an hour for practice. If you fail dont be discouraged. Take it again when you have confidence.Too bad I didnt learn when I was younger but You are never too late .As long as you have the determination and motivation go for it... :)

I just took the course over Easter weekend. The course in TX is only 2 days from 8 to 5 each day. It cost 180. and is sponsored by our State Dept. of Public Safety. My instructor was a retired (30 yrs) motorcycle cop, and he was awsome. I had friends try to teach me, and I "could" ride before I took the class, but I had no confidence and always got off the bike shaking. After this course, I am confident and KNOW I can now ride that bike!!! I think everyone should take the course, because you learn soooooooo much that an individual does not "know" to teach you. I had a blast taking it, you will to. And it was worth EVERY PENNY.

You can also go to your local county college, they offer courses in riding safety, and unlike Motorcycle dealers they are state certified and you will have your pemit stamped there and go right to MV, and recieve your license. The course is 3 days fri-sat and sun any where from 200 to 300 dollars, you also will recieve a discount on your insurance, hope it helps. Ride safe, late

I think the course should be required for all new riders! Take it before you buy a bike so you won't be tempted to practice on yours! My 16 year old daughter took the course of her own accord. Does she really think I might let her borrow my Fat Boy some Friday night? Also don't think you have to start with a Sportster as I did. They are top heavy and tall. Some of the "bigger" bikes are actually easier to ride...
