The old ones stand out now, thier numbers dwindling down.they're a sad loss to the American scene, these indivualists with the worn down clothes and faces. you can still see them sometimes, the real ones. Some in packs, not as large as awhile ago. Sometimes alone. The alone one is the best. One who's been there a long time, staying in the life he loves, never giving into a system that sucks you up like a vortex if you slip just one foot into it. He's got his connections, a few like him, that care for and protect each other. Hanging onto the only unique lifestyle left. Like old dinosaurs, thier faces are leathered and rough by fourty, but thier eyes still sharp and knowing. Some are grey in the beards and braids, some are limp in the step and pain in the kidneys. Still they know that no other life is life, but mearly a dreary journey into everyone elses monotony. He looks at the new ones, then turns away, knowing they will never know of the life on the road and of the women who can take it. Wild, loving women who'll hang in with them, because they love it too. A woman with a wild heart and a loyal soul, that's whats needed here. The new ones are shiny and young and a bit too clean, they're born into a system that has an iron grip now. The new ones will never know and could'nt take "the life" I think it's the mystique, even to the old ones, why this life is thiers, but it is, and it's the only one, when the last biker falls, like the dinosaurs, this sun will go down on a breed of " heart of gold", tough as nails, freee sprited men, who even at thier worst, love what's thiers and protect it. In a worldwide system that is making all people as alike as manufactured dolls, the earth will be a duller place when the last biker falls.
Hm. But is the last biker gonna FALL. Why can't he just keel over, a double brandy in his mitts, a contented glazed look in his eyes, with one of those great last statements:
"I'm (hic!) gonna show that young (hic!) puppy that MY old flying saucer can beat the s..shhh...shtuffing... out of HIS piece of CRAP anyday and ALL DAY! Where'rrrr.. my...(hic)...boots?"
And with that, gloriously, unrepentant to the very end, the LAST of the GREAT passed happily on to the eternal freeways.
MUCH better. Defiance rules ok!
(Yeah, I'm pretty damn old meself)
Why is it that older bikers can't welcome in a younger class? Just because we are young doesn't mean that we don't understand the lure of bike riding. Obviously we bought our bikes for a reason. And against common belief it's not to be "cool" I ride to ride and it annoys me to no end to wave to a guy on a harley and get snubbed. But for some reason when I ride in NH (without my helmet) everyone waves, but if I'm wearing a helmet so people don't realize I'm a chick they just snub me like I'm some punk as kid on a rocket that doesn't know how to ride. I'm friends with all the guys at our local harley dealer and I ride with them often. It's people like you that think you are better than everyone else because you are doing it longer that is taking away from the brotherhood of bikers. It's still there, and it always will be there, you just need to look a little bit harder and not be so blinded by the way things were. The need to ride is something that can be passed on. A friend was killed 3 years ago today. Tonight we will all ride out to his home town to say our remembrances as we do every year. His memory will keep us connected forever. You don't lose love.
Thanks Man: Never seen that before, makes me proud that i have had & still do those few in my life. But we should all take a look the others and still know that it will carry on. Some may walk threw life with a limp, but there head & shoulders will be high with respect. Open/up ones arms for those who deserve & stay hopefull for the ones who don't.
The most important thing is that you ride and at least once in awhlie ride out of town. It is not usually my choice but I will ride alone rather than not ride. I ride my own...anyone that wants to join me is always welcome. Ladies....learn to ride your own, then it is your destiny. Ride safe always. Chrome don't get you home!
.....thats why use women need to show our boys what its all about...take them with, let them see, hear, smell, feel, and ask questions.....i don't see any thing like that ever......it makes my heart bleed to just imagine and know what will never be again......
Lowryder -- thank you so much for that post! The community needs to be reminded of the lone cowboy in this day and age! The weathered beat up rider has stories that are VAST and TRUE just like his soul. Without speaking a word, his eyes will tell you of his life! He knows the true meaning of brother and sisterhood and will never let anyone dictate his direction. I have experienced the loss of commrades but so relieved that they're now riding in the sky. They STILL have my back! :)
