Hossy I dont' think Ramsey is a genuine confident person. I have watched him. He cannot take criticism or anyone disagreeing with him. He pushes to get any little sensitive or fragile part out of him. Almost challenging himself to be harder and tougher. He also at times slips and is over concerned that he is doing the right thing. He ash a hard task master inside him and he hates to be weak and vulnerable, That is not the sign of a confident person. That is the sign of someone who is afraid of showing any weakness. You will notice he picks on weak people or on people who genuinely challenge him. He is a bully who has to be in charge. Over compensating for a weak ego. But about how you feel inside. Isn't real courage about feeling the fear and doing it anyway. Junie

As several on here already stated it does depend on the situation. I can be very confident even in the worst situations. Or the most uncomfortable i.e. emergencies at work, I am the one everyone looks to during an emergency (probably because I am a dinosaur there) and because I am very calm. I have great confidence identifying and making the decisions right then. Same thing when my mother was dying, I handled all the doctors, hospice, meds, etc. But..other times I am Wuss of the year. I can definitely see it in other people and when I do, when it is a gentle, serene confidence it is a beautiful sight to witness. It is something I do try to emulate.

I agree with your definition Junie...A person just being themselves and courteous to others and is a calming influence, is someone who attracts people to them...Also a person that is approachable and easy to talk to. I prefer inward confidence rather than outward confidence...difference is the volume of external gestures. eye contact and a welcoming smile is also important. I have been told that my calming influence is what has kept me employed all these years. Although it may show externally that I'm quietly confident, internally there may be several chaotic things going on, but I have learned to mask that over the years, especially with breathing technique and controlling the blinking of the eyes. Lord knows I need to stay calm to handle my current lot in life! I try to keep my mind filled with hope and faith and positive visuals to help me stay ahead of the gloom and doom. I also do a lot of planning ahead because with a plan in mind you stay on course when everyone else is freaking out. As a manager, I find people try to act on too little information...get the right information, apply a suitable process.. make the right decisions.

Also everyone seem to like this noisy pushy persona as confidence. As English I still like reserve and a little reticence. It shows the person has humilty and respect to you. I suppose it shows the person has tender hearted feeling and is not all full of himself. The Bossy Bullying typr seems to be all the rage ie: Ramsey in Hells Kitchens. But I would never consider such a man. and I have seen better chefs run their kitchen with calm quiet intelligent command. No shouting or dramatics. Mind you I have been in management and am totally convinced some people don't move unless you say it loud and kick their a$$. Still refuse to do so though. Eventually gets through. Always remember Molly Middlehurst Deputy Head Teacher who said she would Never Raise Her Hand, Raise Her Voice or Seek to Undermine or Humiliate a Person in order to get their respect and authority over them. To do so would instantly take away her right to that authority and position. Mind you she could do it. Junie Junie

Yea sunset for the most part you can tell right away about the self confidence. But it also depends on the situation. I have seen some people that you would not expect anything from but given a situation they are the ones that step up. I have seen that a lot working with fire dept. and rescue squad.

Confidence is calm and cool. Not brash or loud or over confident or pushy. A lot mistake true confidence for somwone who ahs a louder personality. Condidence is not someone who feels they need to prove it all the time. There is also confidence in different situations. I hate socialising and networking I always say teh wrong thing. I am not superficial enough. But give me a dangerous situation and crisis where most peopla buckle and I am there and am on top. A confident calm person emits that calm to the rest of the room. Yes Red...I have it....sometimes it is for different things.....when I am acting on stage, directing a show, teaching a student, rappelling down a 100 foot cliff(what a blast!!!) and sometimes when I am going out....the physical confidence has taken longer than the mental confidence. You tell by the way a person walks into a room, the carriage in their body, the smile on their face....yes, I think you can tell.
