I am suppose to be at the 5th Annual Knucklehead Reunion in norther Wisc. right now but instead I'm UPSing my rear head to Ohio. Fired up my Knuckle this morning about 6am for the 6 hr ride north. As I let it warm up I gave a visual once over like I always do and the rear rocker cover was shaking like a crack ho on Sunday morning. The head had cracked at the supports for the knuckle. I pulled the tanks, and the head and headed to the local weld shop figuring I'd get out of here by noon. They didn't want to touch it what with the head being cast iron and all. So I sent it to a shop in Ohio I know can fix it. This is the first time since 1974 that I haven't had at least one motorcycle running. Guess I'll get back to assembling the Shovel this weekend. Damn I was really looking forward to a burger and a beer at Muskie Jacks on hwy 70 just west of Minocqua

Thanks Heretic. And yes the frame has never been cut and has all the stock tabs. Including the toolbox mount and side car loops. It even has a working neck lock. Spyder, Hope you will be able to put that top end off till winter. This waiting for parts crap sucks and its only been 2 days.

Knuck, It must be that time. This last week I have noticed when I start up the shovel I get that little puff of smoke. I think a valve job if not top end is just around the corner.

Thanks guys. Fromthefarm ya I know what you mean This could have broke last December, then I would have had 3 months to fix it Panrider would love contact info on that guy in Tx if you have it. I am rebuilding a pair of 49 Panheads and know I will be looking for all kinds of parts.

I hate to hear that. Went through something similar last year when the exhaust flange on the rear head broke on my Pan. As an fyi, if you ever need replacement parts there's a guy here in Central Texas with a selection like you can't begin to imagine.
