Is it a sign of old age when you take loud pipes off your bike, and replace them with quieter ones? I put a set of 2 1/4 inch Samson Ripsaws on my red bike about 6 or 7 weeks ago. Yesterday I replaced them with a BUB exhaust system WITH BAFFLES! ten years ago I would not have even considered this. I was ok with the noise of the samsons, but they turn down right behind the transmission. That blew dust and road grime up all the time. The bubs don't do that

I will get some pics of the new pipes up. They come out above the tranny, and end about the middle of the rear shock. I had to make my own rear mount, because the red bike has a rubber mounted frame, and these pipes are only made for softails. They get a lot of attention, and a lot of people have said they remind them of the old harley XR750 flat track pipes. It took me a couple of days to get used to the difference in sound, but now I really like them. They have the BUB/Rinehart deep toned rumble without the sharp crack of straight pipes.

I do want them to hear me and my ppes do that but long halls the really loud pipies leave ya deaf, I ride with folks that have em and when they stop they scream instead of talk when they stop, no thats a true sign of old age...

I like your taste SC. I mentioned before that I had Samson long cannons on my old pan. These are very similar to V&H long shots. I have never heard Rineharts on a V-rod before, but I do like that brand. Rineharts are made by BUB exhaust, and the only reason I bought my new pipes with the BUB badging is because I do not like how the Rinehart end caps turn purple when you ride a lot

I have a thunder header on mine, and its loud, but i plan on building pipes and mufflers to sell. Ive been making race car mufflers for over 20 years and plan on making some to fit the smaller pipes to be used on my bike first, and when i find what sounds and performs best, ill start marketing them.

I am torn I now have medium pipes not too loud but also not the baffled ones. Delima, but if I don't get Barney running again I guess it don't matter what kind of pipes he has, LMAO.

THANKS A LOT RK. I suddenly feel the need for a walker. I used to have an Ultra, and I built a trike for my wife years ago. In defense of the ultra, I do have to travel a lot for work. It had over 148,000 miles on the clock, and was on it's second engine when I retired it. Now I have to take a long ride on my old pan, just to prove my youth and vitality (it has uncorked 2" samson long cannons)

anyone who has run BUBs know that the baffles do not make much difference when you grab a fist full. It is still loud. Part of my problem is that I have about 1/4 mile of gravel private drive, just to get to my front gate. From the gate in it is paved for dust controll (another 1/4 mile). I was tired of the bike looking filthy every time I rode it. I almost went back to the thunderheader I took of before buying the samsons. I will be putting a 135 inch stroker in that bike when I get a little time. That would make the dust issue even worse Hey sweetcheeks, are you using reversion cones in those pipes? Are they the 2" or the 2 1/4" like the samsons?I do like the sound of the short large diameter pipes

Could you keep it down when you pass my house? How come just when you get to the crucial bit on a film and find "who done it" some screaming bike goes past and just when you are about to find out why they did it. Another screaming bike goes past. I never even found out who shagged who to get to the diamonds because the bike goes past again. Junie

I just like what "sounds good" to me. The Harley uses baffled SE "slip-ons" - - - I fire mine up about 5:30 in the morning to get to work on time - at that time of day it seems awfully loud but at least it doesn't rattle windows. Plan to put Edelbook Headers on the Jeep this summer with glass paks. On days when I have to drive the Jeep in winter, by 5:30 the neighbors need to be out shoveling snow anyway.

Time to buy a trike bro. I drill, cut, and rip to get any baffle out. I'm just running Screaming Eagle 2 with no Baffle. It has a nice deep rumble not a high pitched rap.

I presume you re-jetted the carb accordingly so my only question would be is there a noticable difference in performance? I read a lot of blogs about pipes relative to sound but for me it boils down to their impact on performance. How do you like the ride itself with the new pipes?

I prefer mine as loud as possiable, I have Vance & Hines short shots with no baffles, have had a lot of comments on how good they sound. I like to be heard before I show up, its a safety thing too
