So I just have to ask cause my birth given name is Nancy but no one knows who you are talking about when you say Nancy, at least in Florida or WV. I have all brothers and no female cousins, there were no females in my neighborhood so they have always called me Sis. So how about you?

My grandad Earnest was married for over 50 years. It was only when he died that we found he was christened Walter. Even he did not know. His dad was in Boer war when he was born came back and didn't like the name. Granny was beside herself as she was never legally married and all her children were baskets. Junie

Given Name Douglas (Doug). (Named after Gen Douglas MacArthur. Honest.) Nickname: Tom ("Thom"), Tommy. Back in the "Old Navy" everybody below the rank of Chief was referred to normally by last name. Nicknames were usually based upon last names. "Smitty" for "Smith", "Bart" for "Bartholomew" and "Tom" for "Thompson" etc.
