HELENA, Mont. (AP) - Motorcyclists lined up Thursday to oppose a proposal that would require they wear a helmet when riding, arguing wearing helmets could actually be more dangerous. The bill was quickly killed by a legislative committee amid the overwhelming opposition. Dozens of motorcyclists argued they should be allowed to choose whether they want to wear a helmet, as they currently do under state law. "I make the decision, this is America for God's sakes," said motorcyclist Ralph Elrod of Wolf Creek, a retired fire chief. Hospital groups and others argued that costly head injuries from motorcycle crashes could be prevented with a mandatory helmet law. Taxpayers often have to pick up the tab for the expensive care. "We are the ones who pay for their choice not to wear a helmet," said sponsor Rep. Ron Erickson, D-Missoula. The measure would have levied a $50 fine on those caught without a helmet. Hospital and health groups said the evidence is clear that their costs and those of emergency medical responders increase when a motorcyclist crashes while not wearing a helmet. "Odds are that if that person survives, he or she will suffer a traumatic head or spinal injury," said Mike Foster, speaking on behalf of a number of state hospitals. Opponents of the mandatory helmet law said the helmets can restrict vision and hearing, and create unsafe situations. They should be allowed to decide individually, based upon the riding situation. "It's an issue of freedom," said Sen. John Brueggeman, R-Polson. An amendment that would have allowed those with at least $100,000 medical insurance to ride without helmets, while forcing the rest to wear a helmet, was shot down before the bill was tabled. Supporters said that change would have protected taxpayers from the big cost of caring for crash victims while allowing those who wanted to ride without a helmet. The measure was tabled with a 15-2 vote.

Justforyadumbass, You know with each reply you post on here you show what a f*ckwad you are! Now you want to question my honor? Now you want to say I am dishonest? And all because I have highlighted the fact that you continually show yourself to be a moron! Let me state emphatically that I have never deleted any, as you say, "blob entries". Now as for blog entries the only time I have deleted blog entries of someone else has been when I have chosen to delete a blog which I have authored ( that means I wrote it - read it slow if you have to )which in turn obviously deletes all comments on that blog also. You also said something about, "a turd floating in the towel bowl." Is this some sort of California sportbike rider custom that you have started in which you, Justforyadumbass, place your face towell in a bowl and shit on it!?! Perhaps this helps to explain your shitty disposition. Now as for your quoting this, "News Flash: Huh, now your latest comment has disappeared ....... imagine that!" I posted that after YOU, Justforyadumbass, had deleted some of your moronic comments to the blog I had posted! I figured that after I highlighted how rediculous your comments were that you were embarassed by your own moronic ramblings and deleted them yourself. You, Justforyadumbass, also stated, "Women [at this site] seem to go for the honest guys with a minimal amount of honor." Well, Justforyadumbass, you don't qualify under the honesty clause however you might barely (personally I doubt it though) squeak by with the "minimal amount of honor" requirement. Now back to the fact that you have called me a liar and publicly questioned my honor! The 1854 miles between us will save you from the ass-whipping you are so deserving of!

Hey Phil, Like methane gas rising out of the murky swamp, or a turd floating in the towel bowl, to my surprise I see your blog entry rose up out of the crap from which it came and I had to click on it. I would be careful about slinging the crap because it only shows what a liar you are. First, if you stated you never deleted any blob entries, you need to delete YOUR blog entry in which you stated you deleted my entries. Just in case you are too drunk or stupid to find that entry, I included it directly below: "Commented on 02-MAR-07 Justyforyadumbass, First off dude, you know nothing about me or my personal situation except for the very few details I have shared here on BK and you can't even get those right when you attempt to refer to them! Because I have a different opinion than you, you want to continue to write of my "stupidity." Dude, you have demonstrated once again that you cannot intelligently advocate your position. I find your statements to be laughable and demonstrative of your personal need for the nanny-state. Find yourself a bubble and go live in it bubble boy! Enough said! News Flash: Huh, now your latest comment has disappeared ....... imagine that!" Frankly, I don't care if you have no honor and choose to lie, but I would think [if you were looking for a date or girl friend] you would not display your inability to tell the truth. Women [at this site] seem to go for the honest guys with a minimal amount of honor. Have a nice day.

Hey Justyforyadumbass, Don't you realize that you just show the world what a little bitch you are with comments you post such as the example (03/02/07) I have cut and pasted below. Originally posted by Justyforya on 03/02/07 - Nope, I figure if you want to pick and choose my replies which 'to a small and limited few? may make you look intelligent, and delete out my replies that point out your stupidity, I will take away your 'FREEDOM' to do that- hint, not give you that opportunity. Oh, you never did address the car seat belt issue and why you aren't protesting that law taking away your so-called freedom. Got a clue (yet)? Have a nice day.

Hey Bud, I don't know what your game is but I have NEVER deleted anyone's comments off of any blog I have written! Perhaps you realized how asinine your statements were and you were embarrassed and deleted them yourself only to accuse me! Again you have shown yourself to be a simpleton! I was curious about what kind of person would produce the ramblings that you have and I reviewed your profile - one suggestion, don't stop taking classes as you have definitely demonstrated your need for more education! Good luck to you on that education thing!

Actually Justyforya, if you had read this entire blog you would have seen that I have had an experiment of my own so to speak, back in 1984. Perhaps you have repeatedly tried your ridiculous experiment! That would go a long way to explain your ridiculous rantings! I would think that with all that money you profess to have that you could come up with and fund a much better "experiment" as part of your "independent study." Justyforya, it's all about freedom of choice/personal liberties! Where do you draw the line! I for one favor LESS government sponsored interference in my life while it sounds as if you favor the "nanny-state" approach. Anyone who thinks we should have "somewhat of a choice" in our activities probably NEEDS the nanny-state approach. Well, you do ride a sport bike then, don't you!?! Like they say, "it takes a village to raise a sport bike rider!" And like I say, apparently a village lost their idiot when you left town!

Hey I am so glad some one has millions but I'm a poor white gurl just trying to enjoy whats in my blood and I would gladly pay all those 250.00 tickets for not wearing a helmet. My heritage came from ridding motorcycles and man none of them wore helmets. So how did they survive only to die of cancer in their old age, go figure that one, is there a helmet to protect ya from that? With all that money buy some frinds and go do something leave us poor bikers alone. (yeah I know k6 I'm not a real biker just a lady rider)

Hey justforya, *News Flash* - There are plenty of "veggies" out there who WERE wearing helmets so applying logic like yours, probably the best thing to do would be to outlaw motorcycles ......... NOT!!! This country has been built on the foundation of personal liberties! Again applying logic like yours (the almighty dollar logic)the government will have to outlaw mountain climbing, hiking, fishing, camping, smoking, over-eating, snow skiing, water skiing, swimming, snorkeling, sky diving, etc., etc., etc., as people could be injured or even die participating in these activities and the taxpayer could possibly be burdened with some expense! Oh that's right, you would remedy this with mandatory insurance of at least a million dollars (are you by chance employed in the insurance sector?)! So basically you are saying that every American should be required to have a million dollar policy or be fined $250 for participation in any activity deemed risky (or seemingly life in general) by "Big Brother"! How pathetic!!! I really don't think your ideas for our society would be embraced by our founding fathers and they most definitely are not by me! I've got an idea! Hows about you take some of that $10m - $50m you profess to have in your profile and fund yet another supposedly independent study on this subject. I am sure that a wealthy fellow (whether real or imagined)and avid motorcycle enthusiast (again, whether real or imagined)such as yourself wants to give back to the motorcycling community!

Man this is nothing but good news my roomy and I spent a lot of time in Montana all over but mostly in Billings area around Sturgis time last summer if we had to wear a helmet we would have picked up her new bike at Beartooth H.D. in Billings and left the state. Bad neck and helmets are heavy.

Little Pixi, Rode off a hairpin curve in 1984. Did not have a helmet on (1984 Georgia = Helmet Law), along with numerous cuts and contusions I suffered a hairline fracture of the third spinal cervical. It was explained to me at the time that had I been wearing a helmet at the time of the accident that there was a good chance it would have increased the severity of the fracture which subsequently would have caused a spinal chord injury which would have caused paralysis, respiratory failure and possibly death! I am not going to say that helmets don't prevent injuries as in many instances they do. However, I am going to say that I am damn glad that I didn't have one on that Sunday afternoon in 1984! By the way, I was issued a ticket for a helmet law violation by the Georgia Highway Patrol, but at least I was alive and able to pay it! PLEASE ........ Let Those Who Ride Decide ..... In other words Pixi, You decide what is best for you and I'll decide what's best for me ........... freedom of choice!

Over here in the UK its the law to wear a helmet and because of the way most bikers ride on our roads (country lanes) we need to wear them. There's an awful lot of sports bikes around here and well i've seen quite a few nasty accidents but because the rider has a helmet on they've survived. Every time I see young kids racing around on bikes without proper gear I cringe and think stupid kids......there gonna end up dead. Unfortunately this happened to a friend and well I personally if the choice was mine would still wear a helmet. pixi

Like the sticker says helmet laws suck. It's mandatory where I'm from. If I spill out serious enough I'd want to die instead of being a vegetable

good for montana, it took a long time to get it repealed here in the jelly state of ky. if these people really beleived the public burden theory you would be wearing a helmet in a car. motorcycle related injuries cost a fraction of auto injuries but the safty nazis will never admit it, if they did then the mass majority of the country would be climbimg their ass instead of a few hundred bikers. getting off my soapbox now, sorry it's a sore spot.
