Do you CRASH here often??? Posted on Dec 14, 2006 at 02:34 PM
Never mind how careful you are behind the wheel or how long you've been driving, the signs of the zodiac may be bigger factors behind your ability to avoid car crashes -- or why you have too many. According to a study by InsuranceHotline Datcom, a Web site that quotes drivers on insurance rates, astrological signs are a significant factor in predicting car accidents. The study, which looked at 100,000 North American drivers' records from the past six years, puts Libras (born September 23-October 22) followed by Aquarians (January 20-February 18) as the worst offenders for tickets and accidents Leos (July 23-August 22) and then Geminis (May 21-June 20) were found to be the best overall. "I was absolutely shocked by the results," said Lee Romanov, president of Toronto-based InsuranceHotline Datcom, who also wrote the book "Car Carma" which touches on the correlation between astrological signs and driving ability while doing the study. Romanov originally wanted to have some fun by examining astrological signs as a possible cause for the variance between insurance companies quoting high and low rates but didn't expect to find anything interesting. "Now, changing postal codes is far less significant to me than drivers of certain astrological signs," she told Reuters on Wednesday. Even age, another variable for determining insurance rates, is less of a consideration to Romanov. The cutoff line for being considered a higher risk driver is 24 years of age; 25-year-olds are considered not-high risk. "I'd rather get into a car with a 24-year-old Leo than a 25-year-old Aries," Romanov said. Leos, described along with the study results on , are "generous, and comfortable in sharing the roadway." Aries, on the other hand, "have a 'me first' childlike nature that drives Aries into trouble." "I wasn't believing in it before," said Romanov, "but I would think twice before getting into a car with an Aries."

80 MPH Posted on Nov 13, 2006 at 11:06 PM
What is it about 80 MPH that makes my bike feel so good? Yeah... I know about speed limits. But driving my Deuce at 80 MPH on the freeway just seems so right. Any slower and I'm luging 5th gear. Any faster, and its time to shift into 6th. Do you guy's ride around in 4th on the freeways? D-
Out Ran the Cops Posted on Nov 12, 2006 at 09:02 AM
In my younger days there was times when I had different thoughts on the guidelines of driving laws and regulations. Which lead to a few times when I had to out run the cops. The first time I out ran the cops, it was on a Kawi 500 triple. This was a 2 cycle bike that would load up the pipes with oil and would need to be blown out from time to time. At least thats what my friends told me. So one day I decided to blow them pipes out. I went down the freeway doing 100+ because that's when the bike could be doing some real good blowing. I went down a few exits, rolled around the clover leaf and headed back in the same manner. I was thinking if one good pipe blow out was good... two had to be better. On the way back, I some how managed to get the attention of the CHP. When I saw them I was heading up the hill of a small valley. The lights were on... the siren was loud and it didn't take much for someone to notice they were coming. Which is all it took. The chase was on and I had a good head start. I hit the exit for Woodside road and quickly made my way down the hill. I went into the neighborhoods and zig-zagged the blocks away. I did get away that day. I must also admit it sure did get my heart thumping. I didn't drive that bike for two weeks after that. This all happened over 30 years ago... when I was 17. I'm still thankful my parents never found out about this. Or... any of the other times when the chase was on. Have you out run the cops? Tell me about it. D-
Veteran's Day Posted on Nov 11, 2006 at 02:52 PM
I started the day with hanging the red white and blue on the center corner of the house. There wasn't much wind and the threat of rain was expected. Hanging the flag on the house sure does make me feel good. I watched the dedication of the new Marine Corp. museum in Triangle, Va. This happened yesterday while I was at work. The Marines and Navy have been with my family for three generations. It's late afternoon and the rain hasn't fallen. It's turning out to be a good day. How was your day? D-

LED Brake and Turn Lights and More Posted on Nov 06, 2006 at 09:21 PM
WOW... There are some really cool LEDs out there. I saw an LED taillight on a RK Bagger, that I really liked. The brake and turn lights flashed red while slowing and brakes are being applied. Then all rear lights went solid red when stopped. Talk about bright... there's no bulbs out there that can compare... The same light housing on the rear also lighted amber when the turns are switched on. It was just to cool for me not to notice. I don't see how anyone could not notice the lights in the rear of this Road King. Which brings in visual presents for safety. I have an LED tail/brake light from HD on my Deuce. I like it more then the double filament bulb my bike came with. But it don't strobe like the aftermarket stuff. Have you seen any really cool LEDs on any of the bikes in your neck of the woods? Any of you guy's running around with LEDs lighting up the whole bike? With me, I'm undecided on lighting up the whole bike. Sure I like the blue lights on black/blue bikes. Not to crazy about some of the other colors.. but like they say, This is America, do as ya please.
