law enforcement profiling riders

I know bikers in general have a bad reputation in some areas, and I know law enforcement does profile us, but today it just irritated the hell out of me.
Because of a long, complicated, and confusing day (I hate paperwork), I ended up with both my bike and one of my cars in town. . This resulted in a very attractive blonde following me home, driving the new jaguar (that was the good part). I was doing just under the speed limit, and in my mirror I saw a Sheriff Deputy. gaining on us like we were standing still. He sailed right past the jag and pulled right beside my rear fender, on the left of me. I slowed down a little, and saw him typing one handed on his laptop, and then he slowed to a position right beside my rear fender again. We traveled like this for about three miles, while he very slowly accelerated and decelerated to check out me and my bike. During this time the gal driving my jag sped up, and got close enough tome that the Deputy could not easily get right behind me.
Now I do admit, my bike looks a little hardcore. I was riding a custom FXR, painted flat black with loud pipes and apes. This aside, he looked me over well enough to know that my attire was clean, and that of a working professional. It just irritated me that I was the subject of suspicion simply for riding a bike. Had I been in the car, he never would have looked twice at me

I have been so busy, I have not gotten much riding in lately. This weekend I just quit answering my phone. I took the hot rod bike out and had a blast. That new stroker engine ran like a dream. I do have a bruise on the back of my leg though. Apparently I did not tighten the rear compression release. It came out of the head with a great deal of velocity, while traveling at about 65mph. Luckily it fell between the case and the primary, so I did not lose it. I just pulled over, screwed it back in, and continued my ride

I have not been around much lately, so I thought I would stop in and say "Hi". I hope everyone is doing well.

I hate to admit it, but I have been so busy that my bike is just sitting. I have missed both the car shows here as well, because I have not had the time to get the necessary detailing done. I did find a 1968 AMX though, so I will have another project to do next winter

I have threatened to sell my old pan for years, and last week I finally did it.
Some of you know I bought another car recently, and for some reason all the Is were not dotted and the Ts crossed. An old guy came out to my house to straighten everything out, and saw the bike (I had been doing some cleaning in the shop, so had moved it outside). He came back out to my house a couple of times to look at the bike and talk to me. Then last week he showed up with a fist full of money. I really think I just let him talk me out of it because somehow I knew he would take care of it, because I have turned down a lot more money than I charged him. It was cool to see someone get on that old thing and head down the road

My dad emailed me last night, and told me to go "buy" him a new bagger (His words...not mine). He said he would pay for it if I chose it, had it equipped the way I would want it, and handled all the test rides and service stuff on it. He just wanted to go to the harley shop, and have his new bike sitting out on the curb.
His reason was that he has come to believe that this will be his last bike. His health will not allow him to wear out a new bike. Since I am more critical than he is about things, and ride more than he does, he wants me to set it up, and order whatever upgrades I think he should have.
I love that my dad has this much faith in me, but it is kind of hard, when I think about his reasoning. I knew this was coming, but I guess I really was not ready to hear it from him. He has also said he wants it for the runs this summer, because he is not sure his health will allow him to hit all the runs next year.

Now, In a way I understand. He has steadfastly hung on to the shovel I gave to him years ago, and maybe it was time for a new bike. I even offered to let him have my old evo bagger last year, but I did not expect to hear him say he could not keep riding the old iron. I guess I did not want to admit that my dad was not invincible...

I have been pretty busy this winter and have not gotten the work done that I wanted to on my bikes. So my upholstery guy chases me down last week and tells me that if I want a seat made, I have to bring him the pan this week, or he will not have time for another couple of months.

After a winter of record cold spells, and severe storms, the day after I took the seat in to him, the weather cleared, and it warmed up to 70 degrees. To make it worse, I had dropped the insurance on my pan because I had not ridden it all winter......Now all I can do is sit here and pout because my friends are all riding without me

I had on a video of some concert footage of a friend's band on the TV tonight. My daughter walked in and recognized my friend on the video. It totally fascinated her.
What fascinated me was watching the expression on her face as she started to realize that this man that she likes so well and loves to climb on, is so much more than she understood. She sat there amazed for a while, and then the questions started. It seemed so special to her, that someone she knew could do this.

Now she is in the bathroom singing into her toothbrush in front of the mirror. I really wish I could get a picture, and send it to my friend, but I know it would embarass hber

My 7 year old daughter wanted to learn how to tie animals. So cut a piece of light twine like you would use for a clothes line. I used this to show her how to tie a bolen knot around the leg of a coffee table.....Now she has all her stuffed animals tied to all the tables and chairs in the house and says she is breaking them to lead.
Next she wants me to teach her how to throw a lariat.....I am not sure that is a good idea. I used to sneak up on my grandpa and heel him.....I am sure my daughter will do the same to me

A friend of mine had family in town last weekend, so he rented a limo to take them out for a few drinks. I just happened to bump into them, and was sitting having a beer, and thought I hard a bike pull up. I looked outside to see my buddy on my bike in the parking lot (I had thought he was in the bathroom). I knew it had to be some kind of joke, so I just stayed there and talked to his daughter (she is a hottie anyway)
He came in a few seconds later laughing his ass of. Apparently the limo driver had seem him looking at my new pipes, and had advised him to stay away from the bike, saying that the owner was kind of big, and mean looking (what?? Me??). Instead my buddy sat down on it, and ask the limo driver if he knew how to start it. Then he started it up, and told the limo driver to get on the back, that they would take a ride around the parking lot.

THE LIMO DRIVER RAN TO HIS CAR AND LOCKED HIMSELF INSIDE`!

Is it a sign of old age when you take loud pipes off your bike, and replace them with quieter ones? I put a set of 2 1/4 inch Samson Ripsaws on my red bike about 6 or 7 weeks ago. Yesterday I replaced them with a BUB exhaust system WITH BAFFLES! ten years ago I would not have even considered this. I was ok with the noise of the samsons, but they turn down right behind the transmission. That blew dust and road grime up all the time. The bubs don't do that

I just had the radio on in the shop, and heard something funny and unbelievable. They were talking about different things that were taxed, and one of them blew me away. They said that there was a 6 1/2% sales tax on furry/fuzzy underwear in Minnesota. Now I have to ask if there is actually enough of these items sold to make this tax even pay for the time taken to write and pass it. I guess I just cannot imagine women going to the trouble of removing unwanted fuzz from certain areas, only to pay for undergarments to replace it

I learned today that service managers for Harley Davidson dealerships get upset at the mere mention of someone trying to pull wheelies on a new street bob in the parking lot. The temperature hit the high 80s here today, and it seems to have brought out all the undesireables. I lost count of all the young girls in import cars who took the phone out of their ear long enough to smile and wave at me (I would have been much more impressed if they had hung up the phones, and paid attention to traffic). I had two different nasty women, and even one guy tell me they wanted rides, while I was stopped in traffic (this reminded me why I do not carry an extra helmet). Then I had one guy pull up next to me on a new chopper. The frame on this thing had to be 8 up and 6 out, and was painted blue and green. The rider had bermuda shorts on that matched the bike, flip-flops, and a tank top. He just sat next to me revving the engine until the light changed.
I kept wondering if I was in the twilight zone

I tried a new recipe for BBQed tri-tip yesterday, and thought I would share it with all of you

pour most of a bottle of white zin into a sauce pan (I say most because once you open it, you have to have a glass to drink). Put it on to simmer, and put 2/3 cup of honey in. Add rosemary, garlic, and thyme to taste. Stew until it starts to thicken, then add hot sauce to taste. Marinade tri-tip in this for a few hours. Add some of this marinade some honey,a squeeze of lime, a shot of whiskey, and crushed red peppers to the BBQ sauce, but don't apply the BBQ sauce until you are almost ready to remove the tri-tip from the BBQ

When served with artichokes, a green salad, and an aged bottle of Cabernet sauvignon, it is likely that you will eat until you are uncomfortable

because of the damage to my bike, and the paramedics cutting my leathers off of me, I have been forced to go back to my old bike, and wear whatever I could to stay warm. I was feeling sorry for myself at first. Anyone who goes from a newer road king to an old pan can tell you that there is no comparison in ride. I have to tape my broken hand up just to hang onto the handle bars, and the vibration really irritates injuries.
After a few days, I started remembering why I kept that old pan. I started smiling when I saw it dripping oil on the ground, instead of shaking my head. I quickly remembered how much fun it is to crack the straight pipes next to a motorist on the phone. I found that after the first few miles I no longer missed the extra gears or the blinkers, and I was just as thrilled with that old bike as I was ten years ago

While I miss the ride of the RK, I am no longer thinking of riding the pan as a demotion. Instead it has been a reminder of where I came from, what is important to me, and why I became so obsessed with motorcycles in the first place. I just wish I was well enough to use the kick start. There is something really cool about a 1 kick pan (I have won a lot of beers betting people that it will start on the first kick)

A friend of mine came by my house last night, and asked if I would go look at bikes with him. He wanted to get his first harley, and didn't really know what to look for. He called me today, came and picked me up, and we went to the local dealership. We ended up looking at sportsters because he is only about 5' 6" tall and about 160lbs. He picked out a black 1200 custom, with all the screamin eagle goodies and took off with the salesman. I was talking with one of the mechanics when he came over and handed me a set of keys. My friend told me that he had other things to do, so he could not take the bike home then, and asked if I would ride it home for him. The only problem was that the temp was in the mid 40s, it was sprinkling, and I only had my sweatshirt. He had talked the salesman into throwing in a helmet so I could take it home, but before I had gotten 10 miles the temp dropped the sleet started, and I had another 20 miles to ride

I had something happen to me recently, and the more I think about it the more it irritates me. I stopped at a local bar on the way home from a work related meeting. I had to dress nicely for this meeting, so I had in newer blue jeans, a pull over shirt with long sleeves and three buttons in the front of the collar (black of course), and nice cowboy boots. I had ridden my road king, so I pulled off my coat, helmet, and gloves and left them in my saddle bags. I walked into this bar and sat down next to a friend of mine, and we were talking, when this kid walkes up to my buddy, and tells him that he has a nice bike. After a few minutes we realized that the kid was talking about my bike, and my friend told him so. The kid thought we were joking at first, and then accused both of us of lieing to him. He said that the RK could not be mine because I did not LOOK like a biker

Now the more I think about this, the more I want to know what a biker looks like. I was under the impression that bikers were originally nonconformists. They were not slaves to fashion or fads. I was under the impression that the leathers were for protection, both from the elements and from road rash. When did leathers become the benchmark for bikers to be judged by? Did I miss some memo that I could not have my own look? Am I a nonconformist among nonconformists?
To me it is about a Passion for riding. The look means nothing. I cannot think of a single biker who would fault me for wearing attire appropriate for my job on that day. Yet the image this kid had of all bikers was that they have to fit a certain image at all times

So what do you all think proper attire is? Do you fit into the biker stereotype?

BTW I escorted the loudmouth kid outside and gave him the option to leave or discuss my "lie" further...He apologized and left (although the apology may have been under duress)

some of you know that I had court today over my former Mother In Law trying to take my daughter from me. There was a two week continuance issued today for her to review the reports, so nothing is set in stone yet. The reports from the psychologist, and the court investigator both stated that prolonged care given by the maternal Grandmother would be harmful to the child. They also agreed that suddenly terminating contact with the Grandmother was too traumatic for the child after losing her mother. The final recomendation was a gradual withdrawl of the child, from the grandmother, ending with a termination of all rights of the grandmother including grandparents rights, and visitation, at the end of the school year. As you can guess the former monster in law is not happy

He then told me something that blew me away. He told me that he had been offered a contract for a housing development between Reno NV, and Sacramento CA. If he took it he was moving to Nevada, and wanted me to go with him and be his partner. I had no intention of ever living near a city again, but this might be too good to pass up. Now, I have to go look things over, and decide what is best for my daughter and me. I know if I do this, I am still keeping my place here just so I have somewhere to get away from everyone.

We have elk steaks, antelope, venison, wild boar, goose, and duck already, and another friend said he had more to pull out (I know he has a few salmon steaks that I want to get a hold of).

I just had to deal with something I could never have imagined. I stopped by a local club to look things over. There is a band playing there tonight, and I do security for a lot of the local events. I had a beer, looked things over left a note for the band, and was walking out the door. The owner of the club asked me to stay for a minute, because she had gotten a phone call that there might be trouble. I was not supposed to be working yet but I stayed because the bartenders fience is a friend of mine, and I was trying to watch out for her.
When the trouble did happen, my friend (the bartender's other half) came through the door and tackeled a costomer of the bar. Apparently the bartender had been cheating on my friend with this other guy (but I did not know this until later). I pulled my firend off this other guy, and he came up swinging. I slammed him to the ground, and held him until the other guy had left. I made my friend promise to get up amd leave nicely before I let him up. As soon as he got up he grabbed a cue stick and started swinging. I took that away from him and put him on the floor again (I hit another friend in the head with the cue stick as I took it....I feel horrible about that), and had to choke him out before he stopped fighting
When my friend came to, I bought him a drink, and he appologised, and said he held no hard feelings. I would like to believe that, but I feel like I have lost a friend. Had I known the whole story ahead of time, I would have let them take it out back, and not interfered. I might have thumped the cheating little turd myself had I known what was going on.
Someone called the cops, but when they tried to talk to me, I told them that I was in the bathroom the whole time, and saw nothing (the least I could do).
This is the kind of stuff I was trying to get away from when I quit being a bouncer. I hate being in the middle of this kind of problems. Now I am ready to quit doing security too

We were all having fun, and enjoying the smells, fun, and food of the holidays. The girls wanted to try some of the home made candies on the table, and my friend and I both decided to open a box of See's candies that I had here. Anyway the kids grabbed theirs and took off, leaving my friend and I picking through the other candies looking for our favorites. We even contemplated cutting them all in half to figure out which was our favorites. We both scoffed the idea off as childish, but then ate 1/4 of the box looking for the ones we wanted. Then we opened a bottle of home made kahlua and laughed at how childish and silly we were acting

Christmas wishes

I probably will not be on here much in the next few days because I will have a house full, so I thought now would be a good time to extend my best wishes to all of you. I also want to extend a couple personal thoughts to a few people who I have found to be quite special (and I am not referring to the kind of special people that ride a short buss either).

Jersey. You have been there every time you thought I might need a hand, a shoulder, and ear, or a friend. Thank you, and I hope you know how much I appreciate this. I hope all goes well with your son's wedding. We all expect to see pics of you in that dress. You told me that you "clean up well". I want to see proof....I have not forgotten about that hug you made me promise to give to my daughter either.

Jessica. I really hope you get to spend the holidays with your mom. You will be in my thoughts. You told me that you had put up candles for Christmas. Now I think of you every time I look at the crystal angel candle holders on my table.

Harley. I hope your mom is doing better, and that you and your kids have a great holiday with her. If there is anything I can do, just let me know. If nothing else know that the friendship you have offered is something I treasure.

Crusin/Deb. You have been a surprise. I never expected to have anyone ask me about tractors or hydraulic lines here..LOL. Good luck on that Christmas with your kids

To all those who have lost partners or spouses. (I will not mention anyone by name here) YOU ALL HAVE MY BEST WISHES AND MY PRAYERS. Obviously I understand how hard the holidays can be, and my heart goes out to each and every one of you. I can only hope that you all have had the support of friends and family that I have

There are many more of you who come to mind, but nobody would read it if I kept writing all night. All of my friends on here will be thought of during the next few days, and looked for afterward

OK NOW I AM THROUGH BEING SENTIMENTAL...ANYONE ELSE NEED A DRINK?

Christmas Dinner???

What is everyone cooking for Christmas? To me the food is one of the best part of the Holidays. I enjoy cooking, and I enjoy eating even more. I will have a house full, so Christmas Eve, I am making prime rib, with a mustard. red wine, and herb rub, and a rock salt crust. Christmas day will be a turkey, and a honey roasted ham. Then for new years I am making a venison roast marinaded in brandy, green olive juice and herbs. For new years I will also be making venison back strap. That will be cut into 1 1/2 inch squares and soaked overnight in spiced apple cider, A tablespoon of red wine, and juice from 1/2 a lime. Then it will be pressed dry, and soaked for two hours in home made BBQ sauce, then wrapped with bacon before being BBQed

I had a case of the humbuggs this weekend. I chatted with someone Saturday night about the hardships of dealing with a seriously ill partner. This got me a little down, so I decided to go to the local bar for a beer. There I ran into one of my wife's good friends, and we started talking about her (this woman and her ex husband had rode with my wife and I on our first date). She told me that my wife had called her the day before she died, and said that she "just wanted it all to be over". I knew about this but it was syill hard to hear and talk about I came home afterwards, and sat up until amost 5:00 in the morning dealing with old memories. Then I was tired and grumpy on sunday. To add insult to injury only half of my billiards team showed up Sunday afternoon, so we had to forfeit so many games we no longer have a chance to win the league.

After a nice long ride and half a bottle of apple pie, I am feeling better. Now I have to fix the water pipe that burst in my orchard last night

Christmas decorations

does anyone on here decorate their house or yard for the holidays?I always have a full house at christmas, so I put a lot of time into decorations I have 5 large strings of lights up in the living room, not counting what is on the tree. The tree itself is 8 feet tall and decorated in antique bubble lights (old ones not replicas). It is flocked, and has purple and silver bulbs. I have a second tree for the dining room, and it is done in fiber optics. (It is only about half the size of the other one)Every corner or flat surface has some kind of decoration, many of them animated.

The yard has 12 redwood saplings in it, as well as two mullberries, and two poplars, that I have not decorated yet, but that will be done this weekend

So does anyone else westa as much time on this as I do?

Something I read on here just reminded me of a funny story about my daughter. I was about to log off, but decided to share it instead

When Haylee was about 3 1/2 my dad decided we should take her along to a local bike show. he came and picked us up, and told me what his plans were. He also had a new outfit for my daughter. This consisted of harley davidson pants and shirt. We had a good time at the show, and you can all guess how much attention a cute little girl got walking around dressed in HD clothing, wanting to sit on every bike for a picture.

When we were leaving, my dad looked at a honda gold wing, and told Haylee that that bike was just like mine. She said that the color was wrong, and then asked me what kind of bike it was. I explained to her that it was a honda, and as soon as I finished my dad picked out another honda. He told Haylee that this other bike was just like mine. She asked me what kind of bike it was, and when I told her she got mad. She put her hands on her hips, stomped one foot, and said "Grampa, you ride a harley, and my Daddy rides a harley, and Hondas suck!"

I still to this day have no idea where she got this, but I was laughing, and just had to hug her for it.

I am amzed at the stupid things people do. Two drunks tried to break into my corvette last night. It was parked right in front of the door of the bar that I bounce at. They came in, and started asking people in the bar who owned it. Then they went outside and tried to open the driver side door. When the alarm went off, they walked back in the bar and tried to pretend nothing happened. I was amazed at the stupidity of these two, because there was a few people standing outside smoking, who all witnessed what happened, and there is cameras in this place too. They were dumb enough to belive that they should be allowed to stay there and drink after this . The policy of this bar is that if anyone is found messing with a vehicle in the parking lot (other than their own of course)they are 86ed for life.

After I put a blog on here about my daughter, and the problems we had dealt with. I have had quite a few people e mail me with words of encouragement and support (and a couple instant messages from a very sweet woman). I just want to thank them, and all of the others who were so supportive on the blog.
The situation seems to be working out for the best. My former mother-in-law has admitted that what she was wrong, and now wants to work out all the problems
My life seems to be changing after all this fighting came to an end. I have been able to open up again. I was a very happy, and outgoing person before the tragedy that my daughter and I faced. After that I became more reclusive. Now that the stress of this issue has been resolved, I have noticed the change in myself. I am back to laughing all the time, as well as making others around me laugh. Everyone has started to gather at my house for BBQs again too

contradictions

I was just sitting here being somewhat philosofical, and realized that my life is one big series of contradictions.
I was cold a few minutes ago, so I got a cup of coffee, and covered my feet, but in getting the coffee, I walked past the thremostat, and did not even look at it.
I have two insanely large TVs (one for the living room, and one for the shop)and I cannot remember the last thing I watched on TV was (I do know I watched something about a week ago) I prefer reading.
I have a nice kitchen, and dining room, and everything that goes in them. I microwaved dinner on a paper plate, and ate in the living room
I live outside of town, down a dirt road. I drive a sports car even though the bumps are not helping it.
I have a nice computer desk, and yet I sit on the couch with the laptop
I feed the deer around here, and put out salt for them. Then I get mad when they eat my roses

OK I have given a few examples of how I am not right in the head. What do the rest of you do that makes no sense

great news

well it is great news for me anyway.

Every since my wife died two years ago, I have been fighting my former mother in law over my daughter. She has tried to replace her daughter with mine. There has been countless arguments, mediation efforts, custody/guardianship battles, more mediation, and visitation issues. My daughter (obviously the girl in my profile pics with me) has been dually traumatised by the death of her mother, and all this fighting. She has been seeing a therapist to help her adjust, and this seems to be helping. Anyway this psychologist has had a few sessions with the monster-in-law, and has flat told her that she is doing more harm than good. The former in law has decided that she now wants to meet with the psychologist, and me to establish rules that she will follow from now on. She is willing to accept that she cannot replace her daughter, and wants to assume the normal/traditional role of a grandmother. I do wonder if the psychologist helped her more than she helped my daughter.

The hard part now seems to be forgeting what she has done and said about me, and that she tried to prove me to be an unfit parent so she could take my daughter. I have continually tried to keep my daughter from knowing how much I disliked her grandmother. Now I have to make up with her so my daughter does not lose her too.

I just shot a big four point( 8 point for you on the east coast). There were four bucks in my front yard, and two of them started fighting. When they knocked one of my new trees over, I stuck the air rifle out the window, and stung his tail. I don't mind feeding them, and like seeing them, but I don't like them messing up my yard

I have to have the worst timing. I have been trying to sell my old pan for a while. I really like the old pan, but I have a knuck project, and last year I got a road king, so the pan had to go. Someone finally makes me a deal on the pan, and I am thinking how well everything is going. That is what I get for thinking...As soon as I finalised the deal for the pan, the RK throws a belt, and the local shop does not have a replacement. There is no worse feeling than having a day off, with perfect 85 degree weather, and not be able to move your bike.

I come on here about once or sometimes twice a week, just to read the blogs and profiles. I will say something in one or two of the blogs, and then leave. I never flirt with anyone, send winks, and rarely respond to winks or e mails I get. This may seem counterproductive, but the more stories I hear about dishonest people, on the internet, the more suspicious I become. I have read numerous studies about internet dating, and the common concensus is that about 70% of the people lie on their profiles. It just gived me the creeps to think that I may be flirting with my ex mother-in-law and never even know it
