Re:Yep, I love the traditions that a family will carry on. And Bubble Lights!!!!!!!!!!!! Deep, Deep, Deep. What are we gonna do with you? Heretic write: Christmas was a very special time as I was growing up. The tradition always started with going to our upper ranch and cutting a tree on the first weekend in December. My grandmother would decorate the house and cook almost the whole month. The house always smelled like her home made candies (she made big baskets for everyone). The whole family would meet in the ranch house on Christmas and eat until we were uncomfortable. Now that my grandmother is gone the preperation and the cooking have fallen to me. A friend and I went up and cut trees for ourselves and other friends. I got out all of my grandmother's old bubble lights and some of her other antique decorations. My daughter is going to go see Santa next weekend and I was shopping earlier today......I am having fun with this and understand why my grandmother always did it.. One year my daughter looked at me and asked if I was part elf. I have pointy ears (they look almost cartoonish) and after watching a Christmas special she thought I looked like a really big elf.....I can't help but chuckle every time I think of that

I dont remember how or when I realized it but I remember it not beign so magical anymore..kind of sad. My boys (11 & 14) put lap tops on their list this year..I looked at them and said .."you do realize there is no Santa Claus dont ya?"..they said "yeah so" with a blank stare, I dont think they got it, but they will when they dont find 2 lap tops under the Xmas tree!

Re: Thanks Long!! longbeard52 write: Re:Black Peter??? Yikes, he sounds scary. Ohhh, you mean coal?? Ok, I am slow but I get there. Wait, what's this about willow switches?? That was never part of the deal!!!! Black Peter is the assistant of Santa,He's called black because of the soot from the fireplace. when children have been bad, it is said he visits them to administer a britching with the willow switch.I believe this to be mostly a U.K.and European thing, The Swiss call him schmutzly(means dirty, or sooty.).You can find out about him on google.

I love everyone's story! Night Nurse, I wish no one had taken that innocence and magic from you as a child.
