Ok kids, break out your hookah pipes and bongs (RK)...which character(s) in AIW do you identify with most or think is the coolest??
I myself always feel like Alice, always lost and dealing with wackadoos, but I love the Cheshire cat and the Caterpillar. They are both just the essence of Cool.

I like Hans Christian Anderson but his stories are often sad but very moving. I have the original stories and his description of the underwater world of the Little Mermaid is enchanting'

Yep. a lot of orignal childrens stories are really quite nasty. Do you knwo in the original Goldie Locks she fell out the window and broke her neck Mind you it was Lewis Carol. man who wrote it so he probably had a typical non-empathic approach to tricking and eating iddy biddy baby oysters. Typical 'orrible man. probably pulled legs off flies and blew up frog and toads with drink straws up their a$$ in his spare time.

Take my hand RK, I will lead you to the land of purity and innocence. I seek it daily. Purity.
That was a great little song. Anyone remember that movie Go Ask Alice, based on the diary and life of a young girl who got hooked, cleaned up and then od'd? That was kind of a cult film in So Cal.
Junie, that was a very traumatic part of that poem when I was a kid, I imagine to most kids. Still, a great one though.

Re: I can't listen to that kind of music. I want to stay pure!
symbiotic write: Yeah, The whole song is a trip, with strong reference to getting high and low. Not unusual for that era. Undeniably, the song represents a part of my generation's growing up years. Grace was definitely tripping and making a statement when she wrote it. I did some research and found out that Lewis Carroll author of Alice In Wonderland, favored opium(some say he was tripping when he wrote it)and that in the 1860's it was considered ok for people to use hookah/smoke caterpillar. I'm not an advocate about/for hallucinogens, but if anyone wonders what tripping is like, check out the You Tube White Rabbit House Md video and the Jefferson Airplane tribute video. Or,check out the movie: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Yep Opium was popular and fashionable to take. Queen Victoria was one for Laudenum. Berlioz wrote symphony fantastique on opium. See rock stars never change.
Britain started the Opium wars in China as we were the ones to introduce it and want to produce and market it mass scale, and you thought we were a Christian country with a upright abd righteous past.
They keep saying Lewis had paedophile affections with his child muse. But then they say that about C S Lewis. I do remember having friendships with grown men as a child and walking through the park with dogs or playing jim rummy or fishing. We did have innocent friendships between children and grown ups.. Why do they make all relationships sexual. psses me off and insults everyone and spoils how you think of people. Not everyone is obsessed with sex you know.
Victorian times was pretty schizophrenic. Over the top morality in public but a time when there was more prostitutes and child prostitutes per square inch of London than ever before. Brothel on every corner. Opium taken with the cucumber sandwiches. No wonder English like their mid afternoon tea time when everything stops. No wonder. Everyone was high.

When men on the chessboard Get up and tell you where to go And you've just had some kind of mushroom And your mind is moving low Go ask Alice I think she'll know

The Cheshire Cat and don't i wish I was a Queen and could say "Off with their heads" But do you remember the story of the Walrus and the Carpenter in the middle and all the baby cockles in their shellbeds with the shell looking like a baby's hood. Blinking up trustingly.
