I could not disagree more. I applaud Mr. Horn both for doing the right thing by his neighbor and on his marksmanship. Two criminals paid the price for their actions - good riddance.
I wish someone like Horn lived on my block. Actually, I wish someone like Mr. Horn lived on every block in every residential area in this country - crime rates would plummet and the country we live in would be a better place.
Sadly, our society & our legal system are so screwed up Mr. Horn may be subject to criminal charges, and almost certainly will be sued by the dead thieves' families. I'd send a few bucks to his legal defense fund if I had the address.

Re: It was pre-meditated and with malice. They were no threat to him. He was in no immediate danger. They were not on his property. As per the article, they were doing a B&E on someone else's property, and they were not threatening or harming another human being on that property. He has no right to take the law into his own hands, and he has no God given right to take the life/lives of another human being. I can understand his vigilante efforts if the men were comitting murder, mayhem, and havoc which could have provoked his intervention with a split second decision, but they weren't. It was B&E. I rest my case. hehe!

Oh Fergie, in California if you shoot the burglar in your house or on your property they (or their family) sue you and you lose everything. I believe in stun guns. Just keep zapping them till help comes.

It would make more sense to take a pad of paper and get the license number of the getaway car. One can't take a gun out of the house and threaten anyone. However if they are inside your house you can shoot in self defense.

I must admit that I have mixed feelings about this story.I do support gun ownership,But this wasn't his property so he had no right to take action.I was held up at gun point in my home town.(You feel so powerless when it happens)I never want to experience that feeling again.
As for my life and property,I have no problem with shooting! He was wrong because he went after them.Wonder if he was on medication.Did anyone hear the 911 call?

The old guy might've been a lil' "trigger happy" but, I damn sure hope this story gets out among the losers that think they can just get away with whatever they want!
Ya just never know who may be watching and how fed up that they are with the all the b.s.

I think that with the increasing fear and frustration and hyped up expectation of criminal behaviour people will be "jumping the gun" becasue they have no faith in the law or police or anyone to protect the common community.
Maybe there was something in this man's past where he ahd been robbed and they got away with it which made him project it onto these guys. As you say they already had "minor" convictions. Minor means not needing capitol punishment. Whe he expelled his bullets he expelled much of the type of frustration that the people feel about crime.
The authrities and police and govt need to suport th common community and be swift to respond or this kind of thing will continue to happen.
Neither colluding nor excusing. Just understanding the dynamics that led to this incident occuring. junie
