Quoting redsunset:
Charlie,
I think you are absolutely right. Relationships are hard work....communication, trust, making time for each other, keeping things fresh and exciting.
I was fortunate. I was in a wonderful marriage with a wonderful, warm, kind, funny man for 34 years. I think I can consider that successful.
I have had difficulty being in a positive long term relationship since then...probably for a variety of reasons. Expectations for one.....I had a wonderful relationship with my husband....we supported each other, communicated and loved each other....I want that again....it takes work.
My personal observation is that a lot of people are scarred with things that happen in their lives and either don't truly want to give of themselves completely or don't want to take the time.
Today, society hops into bed immediately and doesn't take the time to develop the connection, the shared interests and values.....focusing on the physical rather than everything else.
'Course...I'm old , so what do I know...lol!
